Senior Cloud Engineer (Hybrid)

We are looking for a dynamic Senior Cloud Engineer to join our growing team!

Our Cloud Engineers are responsible for deploying and managing our customers’ cloud infrastructure. Typically we spend most of our time writing infrastructure-as-code (Terraform) to deploy cloud infrastructure, deploying containers or configuring secure CI/CD pipelines using tools such as GitHub, GitLab or Jenkins.

We champion personal development and dedicate time for our engineers to keep updated with the latest technologies within the cloud space. You will be encouraged and expected to work towards your AWS or GCP professional certifications. Each engineer is also encouraged to be the “SME” for a particular area, such as monitoring, networking, security, or Kubernetes.

This hybrid role requires two days per week at our offices in Rothamsted Enterprises, Harpenden, Hertfordshire. Home to the longest-running research institution in the world and several of our clients in the Agritech industry, the campus is a hub of pioneering research and technological innovation.

Candidates must be eligible to work in the UK. Unfortunately, we are unable to offer visa sponsorship for this role.

Requirements

• Previous experience as a Cloud Engineer, DevOps Engineer, SRE or similar.
• Strong experience with GCP or AWS. Certifications are a bonus.
• An understanding of modern web application architectures – serverless, microservices, REST APIs, GraphQL, RDBMS, document databases, message queues, etc.
• Strong experience with Terraform.
• Monitoring, alerting and observability.
• Deep understanding of networking, TCP/IP and related topics such as load-balancing, firewalls, DNS, etc.
• Containers, Docker and Kubernetes.
• Monitoring and observability.
• Proficient in a high-level language such as NodeJS, Python or Java.
• Understanding of the software build process and experience with automated deployment pipelines.
• Excellent communication skills – written and verbal English.
